We’ve all been brainwashed about calories.
A few years ago, I believed it myself. To lose weight was just about ”eating less calories than you can eliminate”. In other words, ”eat less and run more”.
On the other hand, the problem of overweight people was that they ate more calories than they wasted, I thought. They were greedy, and a bit lazy. They had bad character – which meant thin people like me had good character. Even though prejudiced, it was nice for me to know.
It all seemed logic and obvious. But by this time, more people have realized how stupid it is. And soon we will laugh about how we could fall for such an error in thinking.
The mistake
It can be hard to understand that you’ve been brainwashed. It takes time, it did for me too.
Pointless. It’s true, but is says nothing of value. It says nothing about the real reason for obesity.
Just as pointless are these other typical quotes from calorie fundamentalists:
Since a lack of calories is the same thing as losing weight we can see through that one too:
Again, an obvious and totally useless statement.
Comedy or tragedy?
This brainwash would be considered amusing if it didn’t have such sad consequences. When a person with weight problems is looking for expert help today, they often hear this:
”My dear. There are so many ideas about dieting, fashion diets etc, but it’s actually very simple. There is only one way, forget everything else, there are no shortcuts. It doesn’t matter what you eat, let me tell you, the only thing you need to focus on if you want to get thinner… is to lose weight.”
Conclusion
This is what it would look like if people at school solved their mathematics with the same thinking as a calorie believer:

A little too simple! Just like simple counting of calories gets to explain the obesity problems.
The problem is that most people still can’t see that the thinking of calories, which is spread everywhere, is pointless. They are so convinced that the counting of calories is a true tact, they can’t see how meaningless the reasoning is. And the problem is that they are still brainwashed.
