In the midst of the renovation madness, restoring old floorboards, removing old wallpaper and restoring walls, I set up for a special lunch, trialling some table decoration for the forthcoming annual Easter lunch with all my friends.
For this years table decoration, I’m focusing on combining natural shapes, natural materials such as wood, clay and linen, and a neutral earthy palette, with a pop of colour brought from anemones and ranunculus.
How to create the look:
Collect your nicest glass wear, cutlery, napkins, vases and candles. If you’ve got some flowers, old blooms or fresh herbs use them to spruce up your setting. Remember that your house is like a museum of you – the places that you’ve been, the things you’ve collected or inherited – and the table can mirror that, it is somewhere you can reflect your personality.
Start with a base of a linen tablecloth. Layout your tableware and start dressing the table. I’ve collected my nicest decorative accessories that I’ve got dotted around the house – some pots, stem vases, candlesticks etc.
Don’t forget your napkins! For this table setting I’ve taken two different sized linen napkins, one as a neutral base and the second one, a smaller gingham patterned napkin sitting on top. Tie it with a cut off piece of linen.
Et voilà! The table is set, now all you need is food and friends! Why not try my tarte au citron for dessert this year!
